Welcome to A Twig In My Tree.
My name is Alana Farrell. I have been interested in genealogy since I was about 15 years old and had to do a school history project. Unfortunately, life and other priorities prevented me from pursuing it. Although I still have other priorities, I finally have the time to work on the famly history and learn more about my ancestors. I kick myself for not starting sooner as I have only two aunts left who can help. It is a challenge but I do enjoy it and I have learned a lot about those who have helped to shape the person that I am.
I was raised in St. Lambert, Quebec, Canada but was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada. Our roots are still sprouts in this country. My mother immigrated from Scotland in 1946 with two of her sisters (one of whom was a War Bride). On my father's side, it was my grandparents who immigrated to Canada - my grandfater, Robert Farrell, from Co. Fermanaugh, Northern Ireland in 1920 and my grandmother, Helen "Nellie" Devlin, from Auchinlech, Ayrshire, Scotland in 1921.
The four main lines that I am researching are FARRELL (N. Ireland) and DEVLIN (Scotland) on my paternal side and MARSHALL (Scotland) and BURNETT (Scotland) on my maternal side. For a complete list of surnames being researched, please see the "Surnames" Page. I am also researching my step-father's family (Kay and Sinclair from Scotland and Salmon and Williams from England).
